“…God’s message is near you, on your lips and in your heart” – that is, the message of faith that we preach.” – Romans 10:8 (GNT)
We can use the entire Psalm 91 and apply the written Word of God to defeat fear with faith.
Scrolling through our smartphone, we may find a medical journal article in which a renowned doctor states, “One in every five persons will develop a peculiar disease by the age of forty.” Our hearts can jump with fear because we are in our forties. But instinctively, at that very moment, I admonish you to declare, “It is written, ‘He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases.’” Psalm 91:3 (GNT). “Lord, keep me safe.”
When we respond like this, with the Word of God, we are putting up a shield of faith and releasing power as we declare that, regardless of what the world’s reports say, our God shall deliver us from every deadly disease.
On other occasions, fear may grip our hearts if we are repeatedly having thoughts of dying young and leaving our loved ones to fend for themselves. Again, instinctively, as those thoughts come to mind, declare by faith, “I will reward them with long life; I will save them.” Psalm 91:16 (GNT).
We may be bombarded with images of fatal accidents showing up in the news every so often. Perhaps there is a hereditary disease that is plaguing your family line, and the enemy is now attacking you with thoughts that you are next. Those are fear arrows the enemy keeps shooting at us. That is his job, and he is performing according to his job description: to steal, kill, and destroy. But thanks to God, as children of Christ Jesus, we have the shield of faith to quench those fiery darts.
Let us use the written Word of God that declares, “A thousand may fall dead beside you (me), ten thousand all around you (me), but you (1) will not be harmed.” Psalm 91:7 (GNT). Irrespective of what is manifesting around us, we will not allow fear to hold us in its paralysing grip. We will speak forth the written Word of God in faith. Amen.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. I thank You for His precious blood which protects us from all dangers, seen and unseen. I thank You for Your Word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Help us to hide Your Word in our hearts, that we can instinctively draw upon it as our shield of faith to quench the fiery darts that will keep coming to us as we go through life. This I pray, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
